Graduate profile

David Foreman

David teaches English at a Senior High School in Kyoto, Japan

David studied Japanese for five years at New Plymouth Boys’ High School before heading to Massey University where he completed a further five years of study, the final two at postgraduate level. He completed a Bachelor of Arts degree and Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language.

David’s initial interest in learning Japanese was encouraged by his parents who saw the importance of Japanese. In the future, David would also like to be able to teach Japanese to non-native speakers.

Although he teaches English as a second language at a senior high school in Japan, David believes his experience of studying Japanese helps him to make relevant, practical lessons. Having lived and worked in Japan for 19 years, David’s language skills are strong and certainly a daily necessity. He is grateful for being employed in a good school and his family have decided to remain in Japan.

David graduated from Massey University in 2002. He lives in Kyoto with his Japanese wife and two children.
